Lake Superior Magazine: Review of The Net Beneath Us
Over the past decade, I have watched fellow Lake Superior Writers group member Carol Dunbar write, rewrite, and write again—the story of a family living off-grid in the Wisconsin woods. It was a long-distance writer’s race, drawn from personal experience. Fortunately for readers, she persevered to the end, and now shares the medal at the finish line—her debut literary novel. This beautifully told lyrical novel, with metaphors of the natural world that will take your breath away, is the story of grief and commitment, belonging and isolation, told within the year-long events of living in our region’s beloved North Woods.
